Day 18: A Book That Made You Laugh

First of all, I haven’t read any book which could be pertained to be belonging to the humor genre. I tried reading Hitchhiker’s Guide To Galaxy but I found it morbid rather than funny. I rather laugh at the incidents from the books I read, whether they are a drama or an adult fiction.

Some of these books are-

1. The Help by Kathryn Stockett: It is a brilliant book with all the elements of life, sadness, racism and even some humor, gathered together in a bundle which is this book. I loved Minny Jackson and her “sassiness” a lot. There were certain stances where I couldn’t control my laughter, like Minnie’s comments about Celia Foote or the chocolate pie incident (Hilly’s mother buying the pie for her, that was hilarious). If you haven’t read the book, I won’t spoil the fun. Go grab a copy now.

2. PS I Love You by Cecelia Ahern: This is the only chick lit which I read and completed, and that is not because of the roots of sadness in this book but because of certain funny events that span throughout the story, like when the three friends are stranded on a raft far away from the beach and their mad conversation.

3. A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle: It is a nonfiction book, in which the author discusses his first years living in Provence in France. It is a warm tale and quite funny as well, as the author informs of the lifestyle of his neighbors and the damn funny conversations that ensue between them and the difficulties they had to deal with to get some repairs done as well as because of the distant friends who would invite themselves at their place. It was indeed a fun read.

I guess, that much is enough for today.

Mad/Nonsense: A haiku, a small tale and a limerick

laughing just like that

sitting alone in the room

the screws of mind lost

Okay, I am going to share the tale of a mad woman with all of you today. Well, she isn’t mad by psychological sense, but she actually acts mad at certain stances, like when she laughs so hard that she can’t even speak. And even more so, she would fall down chortling; sometimes swinging back and forth; at other times, completely at hysterics with laughter.

Or take another instance, she went to take a shower during the winters but the water wasn’t warm;  so she decided to make use of the cold water instead after all. I was sitting in the room, when I heard a long-pitched wail from the bathroom and I jumped up, fervently asking what happened. And you know what, it was just her expression of feeling cold. Yes, that moaning animal cry was just an expression.

There was once a queen named Rose

always wearing a red dress, gross!

out her judgement she had read

blurted out, “Off with your head”

through her mucous flowing nose.

* I am not good at writing humorous/nonsensical stuff but I tried my best. This is in response to the Nonsense/Madness Prompt. Among shared are a haiku, a limerick and a little tale of my experiences with a slightly mad woman.

the indeterminate sky

he roared with laughter

and the thunder rumbled,

a shine glazed his eyes

and the lightening strikes again,

he wept in joy

and sweet droplets peter down,

he cried a lover’s melancholy

and the great tears descend,

he wailed a mother’s fear

and the drops solidified,

he hollered in pain of despondency

and the tempest turns up

begetting mayhem and annihilation,

he is powerful,

formidable he is,

the king of the heavens,

the seed of the mother earth,

the father of the titans,

the eldest of all,

the indeterminate sky.

And that is when my dream breaks…

The cackling of the birds

the sound of the church bell

the whoosh of the lightly blowing wind

the drop of the drizzle like snow

the faint laughter coming from across the road

while I am sitting here

watching through an old tainted window

sipping on a cup of hot tea

a faint smile appears on my face

and that is when my dream breaks.
