vicissitudes of the moon

rachel-fenner-windy-landscape-with-waning-moon

it’s funny how the half-bitten moon takes me back to those cold winter nights when i would stand outside, my arms shivering, trying to get a glimpse of the celestial body through the fog — a kind of restive peace descending all over me, blood in my hands, seemingly more blue than red. i was a witness to the change of every breath and every distant sound that would make its presence known to me.

now as i stand outside looking at the same half-bitten moon, i am not shivering and i am not under the spell of the quiet and peace, that may prevail elsewhere. but it is not the same moon; i am not the same eye or arm or form. every change received and given courses through me, through my blood that is in and not out, the night in me deeper, the music a darker hue of blue. this transition is alright. i am alright tonight.

a waning moon —
memories of lonely nights
flowing through me
~
a change in the backdrop —
the milk-white moon sturdier
in the lasting cold

Wet Day

sky riddled with clouds-
they rival fog’s foam blanket
on this wet day
~
ah, a travesty-
the pale blue sky reflected
in a pool of mud

.

A gentle effort to write something, after reading this awe-inspiring haiku by Sogi:
ah, for coolness,
it rivals the water’s depth –
this autumn sky

Linking it up with Carpe Diem Special # 125.

Cold Rain: Basho Inspired Creations

A cold rain starting

And no hat —

So?

~

drenching me throughout

a cold rain spattering down

clothes cling to body

~

tilted umbrella

drops soaking the plastic face

thunder up above

* The first haiku is written by Basho. And the other two are my own inspired creations.

Suzushi (cool/coolness) Haiku

under blazing sun

lone sweltering traveler

comes blowing cool breeze

.

feel of a cold breeze

sleeping under a fig tree

shaded from sunshine

.

cold water shower

after a day out in heat

a sound of relief

.

heavy clouds gather

after days of summer heat

cool drop falls on cheeks

.

playing small children

suzushi environment

change in the weather

* For Carpe Diem # 218

that feeling

you know that feeling

when out of nowhere,

a thought comes across your mind

and you want to jot it down,

.

not because it is an important thought

but because something within you is urging you

to bring out the flicker of that light

that passed by the contours of your mind,

.

scribble it on a piece of paper

with a blue ink or black or even red,

keep on writing till the time

you have completely puked it out,

.

then store it inside a table drawer

already flooding with many such others,

place it carefully at the top

to be read some time in the future,

.

when you have almost forgotten about it,

one day you find it lying there lifeless, still

and read it in the light of the day

and simply smile at that cold thing from the past.
