I walk in the shadows-
there’s a slight rustle of the leaves
overhead.
the sun touches my foot-steps
through the smog,
evanescent,
there’s a slight rustle of the leaves
behind me.
the cloud breaks open to reveal
the spillage of blue, her eyes
trace the contours of my existence.
numb thoughts are strewn on my path,
the world is asleep and I, awake.
so let the winds be, let me be.

LOVE! the leaves above and behind lead to the best kind of breakthrough–“her eyes / trace the contours of my existence.” I have felt the numbness, but to also feel alive! Pleasant or not, silent and alone.

I think some of the most tranquil moments occur when the world seems to be asleep but I am not. It is then that there is the most absolute quiet imaginable. I enjoyed all the details you included….especially the rustling of the leaves!

To get out of what we call the “natural” flow of modern life is therapeutic in a way.
Thank you, sir, for your kind feedback.

The rustle of leaves … sigh … can really be transcendent, I think – almost as if the universe is reaching out to you. A beautifully rendered piece.

Sadness and beauty coexist well here. I like “sunlight touches my footsteps through the smog.”

Walking in the shadows can feel very lonely – a halfway place between awake and asleep…alive..or not…sometimes we need to be set free to find out what we would really choose
