The book that makes me happy is Eat Cake by Jeanne Ray. I have mentioned this book before but now I would like to discuss more about it.
Eat Cake is a story of a woman quite stressed in her life who likes to escape reality by finding herself in midst of a cake. Baking is her passion and it is something she is really good in. She is living a normal life with her husband and a teenage daughter and her divorced mother. Things become difficult when her husband loses his job and she receives an ominous call from her father who informs her that he had an accident and he has had to come to live with them. Everything becomes complicated. It is a complete family drama with bits where you can’t stop laughing and the stances where you would sympathize with the main character.
It is her journey where she decides to take matters in her own hands, through moral support from her newly found friend Florence, who is her father’s therapist and her family who comes forth to support her when she decides to earn a living by baking cakes. Her hobby becomes her profession and she manages to save her marriage and her family from breaking apart.
How does this novel make me happy?
1. It helps me understand that things can turn out to be alright even if the present situations are hard to deal with. You have to take matter in your own hands for your own well being as well as of those whom you love.
2. It is the way Ruth turns her passion into her profession, which brightens my day.
3. The writing is beautiful with daily lives of the characters so vividly displayed; I can’t help but love this book.
4. I love cakes. 🙂
That is all for today’s question.
I will be posting soon, the book review of Red Clay and Roses by S.K. Nicholls.
We can sense your smile when you write about cake! 🙂
