Harry Potter’s Last Battle

A thought just struck my mind. Harry Potter’s last fight is all wrong. Now before you start cursing me or screaming at the absurdity of my thoughts, let me explain why I think so.

I guess you would all agree with me that Harry wins in the end because he comes out to be the real master of the Elder Wand. And the reason behind that, what Harry informs Voldemort, is:

a. The Elder Wand belonged to Dumbledore who won it after defeating Grindelwald.

b. Draco Malfoy won it from Dumbledore.

c. Harry overcame Draco at Malfoy Manor. And thus, Harry comes out to be the rightful owner of the wand.

But what we all are forgetting is that Harry was also overcome in a fight. Remember when Harry goes to sacrifice his life in the Forbidden Forest, Voldemort curses him with the killing curse Avada Kedavra.. It is another thing that Harry does not die. But at least, he was overcome, he was defeated by Voldemort.

So, what shall that mean? Voldemort is the true owner of the Elder Wand. That would mean the Elder Wand wouldn’t have rebounded the killing curse on Voldemort and thus, it must have hit Harry. And hence, Harry couldn’t have survived his last battle. Though all the horcruxes met their end, but the essence of the soul of Voldemort that still existed in his body still would have remained there.

What do you think of it!?

I see it this way. You may counter argue that Harry was not disarmed, the hawthorn wand stayed with him, tucked safely in his cloak. But does that hold significance compared to the fact that Harry was actually beaten by the Dark Lord?

Do share your views about my theory.

Note: I am considering the story of the book here, not the adapted one of the movie.

This picture is damn good..

  1. …but was Harry truly defeated if he didn’t die, considering that the curse that Voldemort used was supposed to kill him but didn’t?
It’s been years since I read the book (I read it the weekend it came out) so I don’t really remember the details.

    • You made a good point.. But Harry had to die for once so as to kill the essence of Voldemort’s soul that resided in him.. He was Voldemort’s last but unwanted horcrux.

So, that means he returned from the dead.. I just referred to it as he did not really die but the truth is he died and after that is when he meets Dumbledore and the latter asks him to decide whether he wanted to return. And he did, so as to see the end of the Dark Lord.

  2. David Eric Cummins says:

I think the key point was that Harry didn’t fight back, didn’t use the wand, just stood there and took Voldemort’s curse. Therefore, the part of Voldemort’s soul that had attached to Harry as a baby was destroyed instead. So really Voldemort defeated himself (or a little part of himself) and not Harry or his wand…Haha, I love discussing those books. Thanks! 🙂

    • Yes, I agree Voldemort killed his own fragment of soul that resided in Harry. That is alright.. Harry stayed alive. But think of the case of Dumbledore and Malfoy.. Malfoy just beat Dumbledore, he didn’t kill him. Similarly, Harry was also beaten by Voldemort. The latter destroyed his own soul but he defeated Harry because Harry was the one who took the curse..
Yes, I too love discussing about it.. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your views. 🙂

  3. Remember the part in the Half-Blood Prince when Harry realized the difference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high? I think that was the reason why Voldemort didn’t become the master of the Elder wand. He didn’t really defeat Harry. He just managed to destroy a piece of himself inside Harry.

  4. I think Harry was not defeated because he did not put up a fight, that’s why the wand stays in his allegiance, the wand favours the better magician but since no magic was used on his part, it takes not effect. Since the wand he uses does not switch allegiance either. Have you ever thought about the wands that Ron brought back from snatchers, the one Harry uses should not really work well for him, but it does not seem to have any problems.

    • They had problems. Because Ron had won those wands, hence, the wand’s allegiance rested with him. That is why Harry was not able to use the snatcher’s wand. He rather uses Draco’s wand which he himself snatched away from him, till the very end.
